Building a Successful IFS Security Strategy
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
The Integrated File System (IFS) remains one of the most overlooked areas in IBM i security. Many organizations either underestimate the risks posed by an unsecured IFS or lack clarity on how to effectively protect it. This oversight can leave sensitive data vulnerable to unauthorized access, manipulation, malware, and theft. In this session, attendees will learn practical strategies for securing the IFS and discover the tools and configurations necessary to implement robust protections. We’ll also explore the latest security features introduced in IBM i 7.6, which offer expanded capabilities to safeguard the IFS environment.

A Journey to the Truth....with AI and Ansible!
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Sometimes, the answer to a tricky problem is right in front of you - you just have to know where to look. That’s what the team at PC Richard & Son discovered while rolling out our next-generation POS solution to our fleet of IBM i systems using Ansible. Everything was going well until we hit a hardware issue on one IBM Power Server. Fixing that single machine was easy, but figuring out if the same issue was quietly lurking on other servers? That was the real challenge. Join us for a real-world case study on how we used Ansible and AI in creative ways to find and fix hidden problems before they caused major headaches. We’ll share what we learned, how AI helped us work smarter, and how you can apply these lessons to your own environment.

Adoption, Care & Feeding of Open Source Packages
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
As more and more development teams embrace Open Source technologies on the IBM i, it is important that Systems Administrators understand managing these packages on the IBM i. This session will predominantly look at the Open Source Package Management capabilities included with IBM i Access Client Solutions as the go to environment for those who are not themselves using the Open Source packages, but will also cover the Shell YUM commands that can also be used by more advanced users to manage packages. We will also discuss approaches to managing this environment in various secured network environments, and general recommendations on updating individual packages.

Deep Dive into IBM i Wait Accounting
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
IBM i wait accounting is a powerful technology built into the IBM i operating system to determine what your jobs are waiting on when they are not using the CPU. Reducing the wait time in applications will increase the responsiveness, which results in improved performance. This session will delve deep into wait accounting, as this technology is key to fully understand the visualization of Collection Services and Job Watcher performance data. This session is a prerequisite to the iDoctor sessions.

IBM i Network Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
BM i network communications has changed a lot since the AS/400 primarily communicated to workstations and printers using Twinax and to other computer systems using specialized communications lines. In some ways things are more complex because our IBM i nodes communicate to a lot of other devices in many different ways, but in other ways things are simpler today because nearly all network communications are built on top of the foundation of Ethernet and TCP/IP. Your IBM i Networking health is very important and is how most of your data and applications are accessed. Your IBM i may be fully up and running, but if network issues prevent business units from utilizing these applications and data the IBM i will be perceived as being down. This session will take a look at approaches to assess IBM i OS Networking health, and it's interaction with Network communications. We will looks at tools we can use within the IBM i OS to better determine what is causing, or likely causing issues with TCP/IP network applications. Finally, we will look at how to collect network diagnostic trace data from the IBM i.

It's 2AM, Do You Know Where Your Console Is?
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
The IBM i restricted state (DSP01) Console environment is an oft neglected part of System Administration/Management. Many things allow systems to run months or even years without needing to connect this system Console. Then, when it is absolutely necessary to have this level of access for a system upgrade, hardware replacement, etc and the environment isn't correctly configured or is completely unknown significant delays are likely increasing a system outage. In this session we will go over the configuration and usage best practices for both the HMC and LAN Console environments.

Observability on IBM i
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Observability is an industry trend, but IBM i shops are left behind in the enterprise observability direction, often because there is a false sense of security that investment isn’t needed to gain observability on IBM i. With the database holding the crown jewels of the company, keeping the IBM i running is critical, but while IBM i is self-managing and easy to use, hidden underneath is a very complex system with an extensive set of tuning parameters. IBM i is also loaded with telemetry data - the metrics and information key to identifying and resolving problems. Attend this session to learn more about observability, why it is critical for IBM i and the extensive telemetry data hidden away that can make troubleshooting much easier using the right knowledge and tools.

Why Wait? Resolve Contention Problems with iDoctor Job Watcher
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Contention problems prevent applications from scaling and must be resolved in order to improve performance. Adding hardware resources, such as additional CPU, memory, or faster disk will not improve the performance of applications that have contention issues. This session will show how IBM iDoctor Job Watcher can be used to identify and resolve contention problems. This session will review how to start with Collection Services data to initially identify what should be looked into further, then using Job Watcher data to reveal root causes of contention. The session on wait accounting is a recommended prerequisite for this session.
