Every few months the IBM i development team delivers new updates and features across the operating system. Keeping track and actually using these changes can be a difficult task at best. This session is the favorite new enhancements from a team of IBM i developers. You get to hear each of our favorite updates to the OS that have been delivered over the past bit. This session is new every time, often lots of fun and for sure there is something for everyone.

Application developers should consider the performance characteristics of new and changed applications as part of the development process. After all, finding a performance problem during test is far better than having an issue occur on production. This presentation will review the IBM i performance tools available to understand the performance of applications. This session will review Wait Accounting, Job Watcher, and Performance Explorer and how these tools can be used to understand the performance characteristics of your applications. This session will also discuss common performance issues that occur due to application design and how using performance tools can help prevent these problems.

Programs, Modules, Service Programs, Internal and exported Functions and Procedures, Binding Directories ... in short ILE Concepts are necessary for a modular and modern programming in RPG and other ILE messages. But ... sometimes still a mess. Once the Concepts are understood and used, programs can easily be created by putting "puzzle pieces" pieces together, i.e. calling functions and procedures. But how to analyze our ILE Objects, i.e. where are our procedures/functions located, which modules are bound to what (service-)programs etc? The good news is, IBM provided in the last releases and technology refreshes a lot of powerful IBM and Db2 Services. Among these services are also all kinds of Services for analyzing and managing ILE Objects. This session combines an introduction into the ILE Concepts and shows what services are available for analyzing the ILE Objects (modules, programs, service programs, modules …)

In this session we will discuss the various ways to implement using REST APIs in your existing applications. What they are, why they exist, and how companies are using them to communicate with each other.

IBM i offers a comprehensive array of SQL services that enable developers to interact with the database using easy to use SQL syntax. SQL services can be used to replace traditional API calls, providing more flexibility and ease of use. This session explores SQL services that simplify common programming tasks, including viewing and managing data areas and data queues, interacting with IFS files, executing CL commands from SQL, and accessing system information.

Accessing business logic from Open Source application and off platform has evolved a great deal over the years. In this session we’ll look at some of the reasons for centralizing this business logic in the database via Db2 Stored procedures. We’ll look at RPG and SQL procedures and work through examples of how these are used from exhibit languages like PHP and Python.
