AI Won't Take Your Job: How to Become Irreplaceable in the AI Era
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
The fear is real. AI can now write code, generate documentation, and handle tasks that once required skilled developers. So what happens to your career? Here's the truth: AI won't replace developers who know how to leverage it - it will only make them more valuable. In this session, we'll show you exactly how AI can multiply your value rather than diminish it. You'll see live demonstrations of developers using AI to tackle work they've never done before, from writing RPG code without RPG experience to generating complete documentation in minutes to automatically generating regression test code. We'll share real stories from our team about the transition from skepticism to enthusiastic adoption, including the specific moment when everything clicked. You'll learn practical strategies for integrating AI into your workflow, understanding what AI does well versus where human expertise remains critical, and positioning yourself as the developer who bridges traditional systems with AI-powered innovation. Whether you're worried about job security or ready to embrace the future, you'll leave with concrete steps to make yourself more valuable than ever.

Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
For years, the IBM i community has talked about the same challenge: “Our experienced people are retiring, and we can’t find anyone to replace them.” But is there really a talent shortage, or is it time to rethink how we hire, mentor, and grow talent? In this joint session, Brian Nordland (Director of Development - IBM Power at Fortra) and Steven Wolk (CTO of PC Richard & Son) share practical, real world strategies that have helped their organizations successfully attract and develop the next generation of IBM i professionals. Rather than focusing on theory, this session is packed with practical examples, lessons learned, success stories, and honest discussion about what has and hasn’t worked. Whether you’re struggling to hire, trying to retain talent, or looking for ways to energize your existing team, you’ll leave this session with actionable ideas you can immediately apply within your own organization. The future of IBM i talent won’t happen by accident. It happens when we intentionally build it!

Why AI Projects Stall: The Operating Model That Restores Speed, Alignment, and Time to Value
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
AI projects rarely stall because of the technology alone. They stall when ownership is unclear, decisions are delayed, governance is disconnected from delivery, and teams lose momentum across the lifecycle. In this session, we will break down the most common points where AI initiatives slow or fail and share an Alignment Operating Model for restoring speed, accountability, and progress. Attendees will gain practical tools to identify bottlenecks, improve cross-functional coordination, strengthen execution, and accelerate time to value from pilot through production.

Db2 for i Indexing Strategy Guide
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
One of the most important things needed to improve SQL performance is to have the proper indexing over tables, especially as your databases grow in size. Indexes are so important that Db2 for i supports different types of indexes. The order of the keys that you choose for your index key definitions is also just as important as the indexing technology in terms of the performance impact that the index can deliver for your query workloads. The number of indexes that you create is another consideration as you put together an indexing strategy for your database.

Modern DevOps for IBM i: Building the Foundation for AI and Beyond
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Generating code with AI is impressive, but it's only half the story. How does it find the source it needs? How do you create the objects? How do you deploy it? How do you manage dependencies? This session explores why the right DevOps foundation is what makes all of it possible, and why, without it, AI-assisted development on IBM i is extraordinarily difficult (and expensive to do). You'll see how modern DevOps platforms automatically identify dependencies, determine build requirements, and handle deployments across environments. We'll demonstrate how non-IBM i developers can use AI to create RPG programs without understanding compilation processes or deployment procedures, because the DevOps infrastructure takes care of it. Agentic coding becomes genuinely manageable when the right foundation is in place. We'll also cover the broader case for moving to true Git-based DevOps: increased productivity through parallel development, better auditability, cleaner visibility into code changes, and a development workflow that connects IBM i to the tools the rest of your organization already uses. You'll learn strategies for integrating AI-generated code into existing workflows and see real examples of what this looks like in practice. This isn't just about writing code faster. It's about creating a complete, integrated development environment where AI and automation work together to make your team more productive.

Stop Sending Passwords in the Clear and Secure ACS the Right Way
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Unsecured IBM i connections still exist in many environments, exposing credentials and data in transit. In this session, we’ll walk through how to deploy Access Client Solutions (ACS) securely and enforce encrypted sessions across your environment. We’ll cover how SSL/TLS works on IBM i, how digital certificates establish trust, and how to configure both the server (DCM) and client (ACS) to require secure communication. We’ll also address common ACS deployment challenges—like user-controlled configurations—and how to lock down functionality and standardize your implementation. You’ll leave with practical steps to move from unsecured access to a consistent, encrypted, and audit-ready configuration.

A Journey to the Truth....with AI and Ansible!
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Sometimes, the answer to a tricky problem is right in front of you - you just have to know where to look. That’s what the team at PC Richard & Son discovered while rolling out our next-generation POS solution to our fleet of IBM i systems using Ansible. Everything was going well until we hit a hardware issue on one IBM Power Server. Fixing that single machine was easy, but figuring out if the same issue was quietly lurking on other servers? That was the real challenge. Join us for a real-world case study on how we used Ansible and AI in creative ways to find and fix hidden problems before they caused major headaches. We’ll share what we learned, how AI helped us work smarter, and how you can apply these lessons to your own environment.

Observability on IBM i
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Observability is an industry trend, but IBM i shops are left behind in the enterprise observability direction, often because there is a false sense of security that investment isn’t needed to gain observability on IBM i. With the database holding the crown jewels of the company, keeping the IBM i running is critical, but while IBM i is self-managing and easy to use, hidden underneath is a very complex system with an extensive set of tuning parameters. IBM i is also loaded with telemetry data - the metrics and information key to identifying and resolving problems. Attend this session to learn more about observability, why it is critical for IBM i and the extensive telemetry data hidden away that can make troubleshooting much easier using the right knowledge and tools.

IBM i: the first agentic-native operating system
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
The industry is racing to build the substrate that autonomous agents need: integrated data and logic, a single security model, durable transactions, and a unified runtime where code and database are not separate worlds. IBM i has had all of these for decades. This session argues that IBM i's integrated architecture, often dismissed as legacy, anticipates the requirements the rest of the industry is now assembling out of loosely coupled parts. We will trace three core design decisions in particular: the integrated database and operating system, object-level authority, and SQL service interface. Each one maps to a problem that teams building agentic systems are solving today. The talk is about perspective as much as technology. You will come away with language to reframe the platform you already run as a strategic advantage for AI, and a sharper sense of which architectural properties actually matter once agents start acting on production systems
