No More Excuses: Using AI to Anonymize Your Test Data
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
We'll just use a copy of production — it's a phrase that has launched a thousand compliance violations. IBM i shops often sit on decades of richly structured data in Db2 for i that is invaluable for testing, but off-limits for good reason. This session shows how AI can intelligently anonymize and synthesize test data that preserves referential integrity, realistic data distributions, and business logic — without exposing PII or violating GDPR, HIPAA, or SOC 2 requirements. We'll cover practical approaches using AI tooling alongside native IBM i capabilities, and walk through real patterns for masking data across related physical and logical files.

ILE Concepts - and Analyzing ILE Objects with IBM i/Db2 Services
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Programs, Modules, Service Programs, Internal and exported Functions and Procedures, Binding Directories ... in short ILE Concepts are necessary for a modular and modern programming in RPG and other ILE messages. But ... sometimes still a mess. Once the Concepts are understood and used, programs can easily be created by putting "puzzle pieces" pieces together, i.e. calling functions and procedures. But how to analyze our ILE Objects, i.e. where are our procedures/functions located, which modules are bound to what (service-)programs etc? The good news is, IBM provided in the last releases and technology refreshes a lot of powerful IBM and Db2 Services. Among these services are also all kinds of Services for analyzing and managing ILE Objects. This session combines an introduction into the ILE Concepts and shows what services are available for analyzing the ILE Objects (modules, programs, service programs, modules …)

RPG and UTF-8 – Pitfalls, Solutions and Best Practices
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
In the modern IT world, data in different languages and move over in data in different writing system must be exchanged, maintained and stored. For data exchanged over the web in JSON or XML format is UTF-8. In UTF-8 a single character can have 1-4 Bytes. For RPG developers, this brings new challenges: By default, RPG automatically converts all data – including constants, variables, external data structures, and columns in tables processed via Native I/O – into the job’s CCSID at runtime. This behavior can have serious consequences when certain characters cannot be converted and are replaced by substitution characters, leading to potential data loss. Length calculations and alphanumeric built-in functions can also produce unexpected results, since RPG internally operates in bytes rather than characters. This becomes a problem as soon as multi-byte characters are involved. Since IBM i 7.2, it has been possible to define variables with a specific CCSID, such as UTF-8. But what about all the other data objects that are not explicitly defined this way?

IBM i Network Troubleshooting & Diagnostics
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
BM i network communications has changed a lot since the AS/400 primarily communicated to workstations and printers using Twinax and to other computer systems using specialized communications lines. In some ways things are more complex because our IBM i nodes communicate to a lot of other devices in many different ways, but in other ways things are simpler today because nearly all network communications are built on top of the foundation of Ethernet and TCP/IP. Your IBM i Networking health is very important and is how most of your data and applications are accessed. Your IBM i may be fully up and running, but if network issues prevent business units from utilizing these applications and data the IBM i will be perceived as being down. This session will take a look at approaches to assess IBM i OS Networking health, and it's interaction with Network communications. We will looks at tools we can use within the IBM i OS to better determine what is causing, or likely causing issues with TCP/IP network applications. Finally, we will look at how to collect network diagnostic trace data from the IBM i.

Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
The IBM i restricted state (DSP01) Console environment is an oft neglected part of System Administration/Management. Many things allow systems to run months or even years without needing to connect this system Console. Then, when it is absolutely necessary to have this level of access for a system upgrade, hardware replacement, etc and the environment isn't correctly configured or is completely unknown significant delays are likely increasing a system outage. In this session we will go over the configuration and usage best practices for both the HMC and LAN Console environments.

Why Wait? Resolve Contention Problems with iDoctor Job Watcher
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Contention problems prevent applications from scaling and must be resolved in order to improve performance. Adding hardware resources, such as additional CPU, memory, or faster disk will not improve the performance of applications that have contention issues. This session will show how IBM iDoctor Job Watcher can be used to identify and resolve contention problems. This session will review how to start with Collection Services data to initially identify what should be looked into further, then using Job Watcher data to reveal root causes of contention. The session on wait accounting is a recommended prerequisite for this session.

Garbage In, Garbage Out: Why Prompt Engineering Defines Your AI Results
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
IBM i developers mastered the art of being precise — CLLE, CL commands, DDS, and RPG all reward exactness. It turns out that's exactly the mindset needed to master prompt engineering. This session makes the case that how you communicate with AI models is now a core development skill, not a soft skill — and that IBM i practitioners are uniquely positioned to be good at it. We'll cover the fundamentals of prompt construction, chain-of-thought techniques, few-shot examples, system prompts, and how to write prompts that produce code, documentation, and analysis you can actually trust. Expect live demos using IBM i-specific scenarios throughout.

How to build an AI agent with SQL services
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
IBM i ships with more than 400 SQL services across two dozen categories that already expose the state of the system as queryable data, covering active jobs, object authorities, PTF levels, IFS metadata, and much more. This session shows how to turn that surface into agent capabilities without building custom infrastructure for each one. We will build a working agent step by step, wiring SQL Services in as tools, handling the results, and letting the agent reason over live system data to answer questions that would otherwise mean digging through five screens. The focus is practical: how to scope what an agent can touch, how to keep it grounded in real query results, and how to structure tools so the agent reliably picks the right one. The result is a reusable pattern that applies to any of the SQL Services categories, and an agent you can extend immediately.

MCP server for IBM i
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Agents are only as useful as the systems they can reach, and for most enterprises the system of record still runs on IBM i. This session introduces the IBM i MCP server, an open-source Model Context Protocol implementation that gives any compliant agent governed access to Db2 for i and the platform underneath it. We will cover how the server exposes SQL execution as a tool, how it inherits IBM i's existing authority model rather than inventing a new one, and how it fits a multi-client setup where the same backend serves Bob, an internal assistant, and your own custom agents. The session includes a live walkthrough against a real IBM i system, an honest look at the security boundary, and a working starting point you can clone and run on your own box. By the end you will know where this server belongs in your architecture and how to stand it up.

The Roadmap to an AI-Native Org: A Live IBM i Agentic Pilot
Monday October 26, 2026 9:00am - 10:00am EDT
Most conference sessions about IBM i and AI describe what transformation could look like. This one shows what it actually looks like — from inside two organizations already doing the work. The first proof point is LoanIQ: a live demo built on Silver Lake Financial Group, a fictitious IBM i regional lender. LoanIQ runs in the session. A LangChain agent queries DB2 via Mapepire, invokes an RPG service program to execute a credit decision, and logs the audit trail to DB2. A working agentic system on IBM i infrastructure, live. The second proof point is a real $1B+ IBM i organization in transition — from campaign-based marketing to event-driven agentic engagement. The architecture is in place. The sequencing, the friction, and the crawl/walk/run discipline required to keep transformation from outrunning the organization’s readiness to govern it — that is the work. The Knowledge Distance Problem is not hypothetical here. This session documents it from the inside. Silver Lake Financial Group is not invented for this session. The Signal4i Silver Lake Series has documented the IBM i agentic build across six installments since May 2026. Practitioners who follow the series will arrive knowing the architecture. This session is where it runs. Claude Code surfaces the business logic embedded in decades of RPG and makes it agent-accessible via MCP. Python and LangChain handle orchestration. A React front end closes the loop and the IBM i becomes the intelligence layer. The destination: agents own execution, humans own judgment, IBM i underneath all of it. The technology is not the hard part. The hard part is mapping the org chart to an agentic model, identifying which manual processes can be touched and which can’t yet, and confronting the people who built their roles around coordination work agents are about to absorb. This session goes there — with a working demo, a live dispatch, and six months of documentation leading up to it. Link to Series -> https://signal4i.ai/silverlake-series
